March Madness!

I don't think I could have come up with a more appropriate title for this entry. As many of you know, I'm a huge Kentucky basketball fan and (most) every year during the month of March they compete in a little basketball tournament affectionately known as March Madness. Well, they're not the only ones dealing with madness this month. I'll get to that in a minute but first I've got a quite a few items to update everyone on.

Let's start with where I left off, and that's with the film score project. In spite of the fact that my main studio computer was down for over half of the project ( It was a power supply issue, and after a poor job by the 2nd service tech that HP sent, I was able to get the machine back up and running by myself later that night), I was able to meet my March 1st deadline.

I can share more about the film now as well. It's a faith-based movie called Decision and it stars Natalie Grant and Billy Dean. I'm not exactly sure when it's going to air but the latest I heard was they expected it to be on TV sometime near the mid/end of April. Once I know more, I'll be sure to let everyone know. It was a great experience working on the film. The production company is planning on shooting more films this year and I've already been told to expect a phone call from them in the upcoming months about scoring those as well. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited about that.

About 15 minutes after I found out that that every cue had been accepted and I was finished with the score, I got a postcard from our water company stating that our usage for the past month was higher than normal. This is where the madness begins...

I immediately called the water company to learn that our bill was currently at $145! Typically, it runs around $28 per month. Obviously, something was wrong. Turns out that a tree stump, a rather large tree stump to be specific, had floated downstream through the creek that runs through the front of our property, underneath our driveway, and crashed on top of our water line that was partially exposed (that's a whole other story in itself!). So we shut the water off to avoid incurring any further costs from this leak and made some phone calls. After dealing with a home warranty company, home insurance agent, a leak detection agency, multiple plumbers and the weather, the leak was finally fixed 17 DAYS later!!! I'll spare everyone all the details, but it's safe to say, that the month of March was filled with Madness for us in more ways than one. But put in perspective with what was going on in Japan at the same time that we were dealing with this, it was really just an inconvenience. We were fortunate that we still had our lives, friends, family, home and jobs. But we are very relieved that the leak has been fixed.

Now back to some music news... It's been quite an exciting couple of weeks. In addition to finishing up the film score, I've also learned of several new placements that have already occurred and got confirmation of an upcoming one.

I found out that during the last 6 months, I've had several hundred placements in five different TV shows produced by Harpo Productions. Due to the contract I have with them, I'm not permitted to mention the names of the shows I write for in public, kinda frustrating, but that's why I'm not naming names. But I can give you a hint, three of the shows are talk shows that air during the week and the other two shows are on the new OWN network, one of which was a reality competition show that just finished and the other one airs on Monday nights.

Now for shows that I CAN mention publicly, I recently learned that I had a placement back in December in an episode of America Now on CNBC. This was a result of a deal I signed with a music library thanks to a forward from TAXI.

And for the placement that I'm probably most excited about... A few months back I wrote a silly little track called "Going Bananas" for a TV pilot. Well, the track got used in the pilot and I just learned that the show got picked up! The show will be airing on G4TV in June and my silly little track will be in it, as well as some other tracks that I wrote for the show! Once I know the date and time I'll be sure to let everyone know. In the meantime, if you want to hear the silly little track, you can do so at this link.

That's all for now!

All great news! Except the water of course. If it makes you feel any better, I was watering my back yard before leaving for a seven day trip last year. When I got back I realized that I had left the hose on for 7 days straight. That was a 500 dollar mistake. :(

As far as the film scores, I couldn't be happier for you. That is really awesome news my friend. You're well on your way!
